We commit our kayaks, our guides, food and office administration. Please honour your booking and this cancellation policy.

What about the weather?Kayaking Man

Rain
Some of our most memorable and fun tours have occurred during the most rain-filled days. Our guides have lead trips in all conditions and know how to turn a rainy day into a wonderful experience on the water. Where clients do not have suitable gear, Powell River Sea Kayak is glad to provide wet-suits and paddling jackets to ensure a safe, comfortable tour. After-all, this temperate area is covered with dense rainforest. If rain canceled all our outdoor pursuits, we would become couch potatoes!
Our cancellation policy is still in effect during rainy days.

Wind
Wind can affect the safety of the clients. Guides always keep a close eye on the weather patterns and marine forecast both prior to and during a tour. If deemed unsafe, Powell River Sea Kayak has the right to cancel a tour at any time.

What do you need to bring?

Think of what you would bring to the beach considering the time of year and the weather.
Here are some considerations:

  • hat for rain or sun
  • sunscreen
  • sunglassesWarming up before paddling
  • lip balm
  • layered clothing (first layer = comfortable, lightweight and quick dry; second = insulation (eg: fleece); third layer is for wind and rain protection)
    • best to avoid cotton (it's cold when wet and stays wet all day)
    • best to use materials such as polyesters, capilene and fleeces (they are warm even when wet and they dry quickly).
    • pants and/or shorts that are quick dry (again, try to avoid cotton).
    • wettable shoes (try to avoid open-toed sandals as they provide little protection from sharp barnacles and oyster shells. Old sneakers can be good or you may consider purchasing a pair of closed-toed paddling shoes. If wearing open-toed sandals, a thick pair of socks can provide an extra layer of protection).
  • water bottle
  • camera
  • extra clothes
  • positive attitude
  • extra medications (including, for example, bee sting kits).

Powell River Sea Kayak is glad to provide a dry bag at no extra charge to store additional items in your kayak while paddling.

General Information About our Day Tours

A Delicious Pasta SaladThe Lunch?
As mentioned under our multi-day tours, to simply say it's delicious does not do it just cause. Our day tour lunches are freshly homemade meals that include a wonderful regional and local flair. It has been said that our tours are worth it for the food alone.

Distances?
Our tours are suited for the client. We usually travel at a relaxed pace, taking plenty of time to absorb changing vistas and marinelife. Our 6-8 hour tours take plenty of time on shorelines to stretch the legs.

Safety?
All our tours are safe! Our guides are trained not only in appropriate rescue and first-aid techniques but also to be very sensitive to our clients. Expect 100% safety!

Our goal?
Our goal is to meet your needs. We believe in providing a fun and educational experience. Our tours have been designed to stimulate all of a persons senses. If there is something specific you are interested in, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate. Just one thing, summoning a killer whale at a moments notice can be a little tricky!
