Chill & Immerse in Desolation is the result of over 14 years of learning what our guests enjoy so much about touring with us: chilling-out from busy lifestyles, relaxing in an idyllic ocean setting and engaging wholly with nature and its fascinating wildlife.
How does Chill and Immerse in Desolation achieve this?
It has always been our mission to provide guests with an experience that is relaxing, immersed in nature and detailed with great food, quality and service. This new sea kayak tour intends to take this to a new level. Using Powell River Sea Kayak's new base camp in the heart of Desolation Sound, guests will be treated to comforts not typically experienced on a regular camping kayak tour. This includes roomy Cabana-style tents, situated off the ground on wooden platforms and furnished with comfy air-beds, pillows and linens. After a nice day of exploring by sea kayak, a cool gravity-fed freshwater shower is available for those looking to feel refreshed and clean before enjoying a nice dinner in our outdoor kitchen and dining area. After a satisfying meal, lounging in one of the strategically placed hammocks or enjoying casual conversation around the campfire will no doubt cap-off a wonderful day.
In addition to the comfort features, our private site is perfectly located on an idyllic island in the heart of Desolation Sound, where the ocean warms to a comfortable swimming temperature and each day of kayaking radiates in a new direction and a new experience of Desolation Sound and the surrounding islands.
The setting of our private camp provides an idyllic west coast landscape, with towering Western Red Cedars and Douglas Fir trees, two cozy pebble and driftwood beaches and a rocky, pinetree-covered outcropping rising out of the ocean. Swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, reading in a hammock or simply enjoying the peace and nature of this wonderful haven, you will undoubtedly Chill and Immerse in Desolation.
A Leisurely Pace
The goal of our Chill and Immerse tour is to provide both a relaxing yet engaging experience. As mentioned, the setting, our idyllic and private camp and the comfort-amenities play a big role in achieving this. In addition, the pace at which the tour flows is also an important factor. Mornings are leisurely, with plenty of time to enjoy the stillness as the sun rises, or to simply linger in bed, listening to the morning birds - and perhaps slowly awakening with a steaming mug of fresh coffee. The daily sea kayaking trip is not rushed, but intended to pull guests into the beauty, the wildlife and the adventure. A picnic lunch is packed for the daily sea kayak excursion, providing plenty of time to explore Desolation Sound. Returning late afternoon to camp, guests can enjoy relaxing in the hammocks, swimming, snorkeling, exploring the island or perhaps even pulling a trap, as the guides prepare appetizers and dinner. The food, too, is intended to be slow - savored, enjoyed....
Please Note:
Although our Chill and Immerse kayak tour provides comforts beyond that of a normal sea kayak camping tour, this is not a lodge and the setting is wilderness, without power or running water. The experience is very much a part of the natural setting, yet with enough comfort to persuade many of the 'non-campers' out there to join us. In many ways, we feel this is better than a lodge, for the setting is so close to nature, so intimate, so cozy... and without the exorbitant costs associated with a high-end lodge.
Having said that, if you're looking for hot showers, solid walls, running water and an outlet for your hairdryer, this isn't the tour for you.
