Lund is a key launching point for two primary destinations: Savary Island and the Copeland Islands Marine Park.
Savary Island is locally known as the "Hawaii of the north" due to the vast sandy beaches that encompass the entire island. A dry climate nurtures unique plants and animals that are indicative of the coastal dune ecology on the island. On the south beaches of Savary Island lie hundreds of massive boulders left behind by the ancient glaciers. This morraine provides wonderful habitat for all kinds of wildlife both above and below the water. Above the water one will often find Harbour Seals and Bald Eagles sunning on these large erratic boulders. Below the water Sea Stars cling to the rocks while Red Rock and Dungeness Crabs scurry for cover amongst the boulders and eel grass.
The Copeland Islands Marine Park is locally called "The Ragged Islands". This cluster of rocky islands and islets provides the perfect setting for exploration by sea kayak. The many coves, bays, channels and varied shorelines beckon the sea kayaker around each corner. Around one corner you may find massive clusters of Purple Sea Stars while around the next corner you may find the more elusive Vermillion Star. With varied paddling and wonderful views towards the Strait of Georgia and the spine of Vancouver Island, the Ragged Islands are a worthy destination.
Rockfish Kayak's guides are experienced and knowledgeable. Each day tour begins with a brief introduction to ensure a safe, enjoyable paddle. While paddling, our guides are there to provide more than safety and route knowledge. Each guide is also your personal interpretor - revealing the hidden treasures of this rich environment. After all, without a guide, would you know that a Leather Star actually smells like garlic? You have to take a massive whiff, it's kind of pungent, but garlic it is! Whatever piques you're interest, be it history, folklore, or perhaps even gaining a perspective on the issues that affect local water and land use planning, our guides are there for you.
Whether you're a complete neophyte or an experienced paddler, we welcome you to join us as we dip our paddles into the majestic waters surrounding Lund, BC.
Leaving the Lund harbour, this tour heads due south. The varied shoreline provides wonderful viewing of intertidal marine life as it clings to the plunging rock faces. Large cracks and crevaces in the fractured rock resemble caves on certain tides and beckon kayakers inside. Spring can be especially nice as the winter run-off waters cascade beautifully over the steep granite walls and into the ocean below.

What better way to access some of the best snorkeling sites on the coast but by sea kayak? First, enjoy a leisurely paddle and soak up the beautiful scenery and interesting wildlife as your guide leads you to the key site for snorkeling. At this island-site, you will then don your full 5mm wetsuit and snorkeling paraphernalia for an underwater adventure, where giant sea stars, colourful creatures and spiny-back rockfish will delight your senses. After the snorkeling adventure, and a relaxing on-shore break, it's time to load back into the kayaks for the paddle home.
Seasonal Day Tour
Spring Sea Lions - "Hear them ROAR!"
Location: South of Powell River
Every year, male California Sea Lions, and a few mammoth Stellar Sea Lions, come to various areas of the BC coast to "hang-out" over winter. One such "haul-out" site is located south of Powell River. Before the sea lions head south to the rookeries, where the females await, paddling to the local haul-out sites is a wonderful experience. Please contact us for more information on this unique and fascinating day tour.

Savary Island is a popular destination. It's massive beaches and warm waters have been luring vacationers for decades. However, where the masses go - we don't! This tour leads kayakers to the little known treasures of Savary Island. To the glaical reefs of the southwestern shoreline - where seals haul out and eagles perch. To the unique island dunes which are home to rare plants and animals.
The shallow waters of this area stretch miles from shore. Due to the rocky moraine, power boaters avoid this area as if each rock was a land mine - yet another positive feature and a great reason to explore this area by sea kayak.
