Okeover Inlet is home to a vast array of intertidal marine life. It's nutrient rich waters feed massive Sunflower Stars (at 1.3 m, or 4 feet, in diameter it's the largest Sea Star in the world), spiny Red Sea Urchins, Sea Cucumbers, clusters of Purple and Mottled Stars and Shield Back Kelp Crabs - to name just a few. Don't be surprised if you're suddenly paddling in a sea of jelly fish. The ethereal Moon Jelly frequents these waters by the thousands - and no, they don't sting!
Powell River Sea Kayak's guides are experienced and knowledgeable. Each day tour begins with a brief introduction to ensure a safe, enjoyable paddle. While paddling, our guides are there to provide more than safety and route knowledge. Each guide is also your personal interpreter - revealing the hidden treasures of this rich environment. After all, without a guide, would you know that a Giant Sea Cucumber will eject it's internal organs out it's anus to distract a predator?? (I know, it sounds gross, but it's really quite fascinating!). Whatever piques you're interest,be it history, folklore, or perhaps even gaining a perspective on the issues that affect local water and land use planning, our guides are there for you.
Whether you're a complete neophyte or an experienced paddler, we welcome you to join us as we dip our paddles into the majestic waters of Okeover Inlet and Desolation Sound Marine Park.

Jacques Cousteau (yes, the famous diver) once said that diving in this area was second in the world only to the Red Sea - and for good reason! The waters in this area are teeming with interesting and colourful marine life. In addition, the waters lucid visibility allows for excellent viewing opportunities. This eight hour tour launches from our historic site on Okeover Inlet and continues into the nutrient rich waters of Desolation Sound Marine Park. On route, your guide will lead you through key areas for viewing a variety of plants and animals.
One of the great advantages to sea kayaks is their ability to glide over shallow waters - waters which reveal the habitat of the intertidal marine life. Our own laminated ID charts will assist you in identifying these creatures. Specially developed tools such as "View Finders" and "Grabbers" will enhance the experience. And, your knowledgeable guide will be right there to provide quality interpretation.
