Business

Hello Adam,
I am sorry that I did not meet you when we were up at Desolation Sound. I wanted to thank you and your staff for their help and courtesy. We were able to park in your area for a very reasonable fee and partake of your information. We also had the opportunity to cross paths with one of your groups by Otter Island and witness their diligence to the customer as they rushed to claim the hidden camping site. Fortunately for us we were camped elsewhere. It appears that many know of your business and all spoke very highly of it. Looking at some of your competitors equipment it appears that you are far in front. We will certainly pass the work on about your business. Thank you again and best wishes.
- Jeff Kaplan

Hi Adam
Just wanted to thank you for the great advice on campsites and back eddies. The campsite made the trip, great location and setup. Your advice on using the back eddies made the trip up the channel not only easy but fun and challenging as well.
Thanks again,
- Chris Nightingale.

Adam,
Gord and I rented boats and gear from you for the week of Sept 24-27 and we just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had. You were all locked up when we departed on the 27th so we were not able to properly say goodbye. We hope that the boats and all gear were safely found where we left them outside the storage shed. I don't know if the weather is usually so good at that time of year, but we had gorgeous temperatures and near glass like water the whole time. Only one afternoon of any kind of wind! We stayed two nights in Galley Bay at the campsite on the island. The one day we paddled to Tenedous Bay and it was lovely. I had no idea how much fun it would be just to poke along the shoreline and look at the jellyfish, starfish, and crabs. We also had many elusive seals spying on us! There was hardly anyone else around - we saw a few sailboats and probably 7 or so other kayakers but that was it! We couldn't believe our good fortune, especially since we have spent so many weekends getting snowed on in the mountains this year.

Also wanted to let you know that we loved the kayaks and were impressed with the quality and condition of all the rental gear. You guys have a great set-up there.

Good luck with your renovations for winter.

Sincerely,
Jenny Earle and Gord Gilbertson

Multi-Day Tours - 2010

Hi Adam
Just wanted to say again how much Dave and I enjoyed our trip with Bill and your company. Not only did we have a great time but we also learned very much about kayaking safely and with thought. Bill was excellent both as a guide and a cook. I have already recommended your company to two others who are considering trips next summer.
Thanks again for a great experience. And tell your family this personal touch of the jelly and snack bars made it extra special...something you don't find in a big corporation experience. Thanks.
- Dave McWherter
PS Tell Bill this old man has lots of aches and pains but each one has a good memory tied to it.

Adam,
I just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for organizing such a great trip. I had a blast! I can't believe the food that Sheila was able to pull out of her kayak, day after day (even that unexpected day...) I've been recommending PRSK to everyone that's asked! (And I'm still so excited about the trip that I've begun showing my pictures to random strangers...)
Now - about that antipasto recipe...is there any way possible that I could get a copy of it from your wife? It was fantastic!
Many thanks,
- Nicole.

Hi Adam,
We had an amazing kayaking trip and the food was incredible! I really liked the energy bars that we had (I think that your wife made them?) and was wondering if you would share the recipe with me so that I could make them.
Thanks alot,
- Liam McKee-Wright.

Hi Adam, I am finally getting around to sending these pictures for Bill, he asked if I would send one from our trip in June, but I don't have his email, would you please forward to him.
Our kayaking trip of Desolation sound in June was fabulous, what a great experience.
Thank you
- Kim Lindseth

Hi Adam, back home and I promised you some feedback.
The Good
(1) Joel - brilliant, knowledgeable, responsible, a great role model for the kids on the environment (and not bad jokes for a Frenchy)
(2) Abby - quiet, confident, really kept an eye out for the smaller ones, great knowledge, wonderful tender personality
(3) Food, accommodation, in fact all the logistics, were perfect
(4) Equipment, all first class
(5) Pre-trip admin, efficient and flexible, a rare combination
(6) Perfect choice of campsites
(7) Oysters, oysters and more oysters!
The Bad - Absolutely nothing.
We had a great holiday with you. You have a great little business there and we will definitely recommend you.
Please give our warmest regards to Joel and Abby. Please thank your wife for the delicious pickles, the antipasti and the little chocolate, peanut raisin thingies that kept us going on those long crossings. I hope Joel's foot injury is getting better.
All the best to you too it was definitely our holiday highlight along with the class IV white water in whistler.
With best wishes and thanks from all the family.
- Julian

Adam,
We had a great trip - all we expected and more.
Thanks again, had fun,

Hi Adam,
Just to let you know Ken found his reading glasses (in his sleeping bag) so you can call off the search!
If you don't mind forwarding your wife's recipe for the energy bar, they were very yummy.
Once again, we had a wonderful time and both Bill and Owen (aka Oliver) were fantastic guides - we could have not asked for a better tour. Thanks for letting us keep the 5th wheel at your place.
- Glenda and Ken

Hi Adam,
After our AMAZING trip, I popped by your house to let you know that I'd send a couple photos we took on our trip. You're more than welcome to use these on your website. These three were taken at Feather Bay (but Sheila could probably confirm).
I have many more non-yoga shots too and I'm happy to send them along if you'd like. Do you think you could send these to our stellar guide, Sheila, as well?
And, if it's not too much trouble, if you could send me Arlene's email address, I could send her some pictures I took of her on her birthday.
Many thanks!
- Bonnee

Multi-Day Tours

Hi Adam, just a quick note. Wow, we can't believe it has been over a week since we have been back from Desolation Sound. I just wanted to take some time to pass on a big thanks via you to our guides Jamie and Joel. Our family really enjoyed our kayak and we can't say enough good things about our two guides. They were knowledgeable, fun, safe and made great meals. For us the trip was a ten out of ten.
Regards,
- Grant, Caryl, Scott and Chris Brunet

Hi Adam,
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write this email.
I just wanted to write and tell you how great our trip to Desolation Sound was. I especially wanted to let you know how wonderful our two guides were. Both Bill and Sheila were amazing. I felt safe and comfortable and we were definitely well looked after. Sheila had amazing energy and a wealth of knowledge of the various sea creatures. She was super positive and had lots of tips to share with regard to paddling style and technique. Bill was calm and organized and treated us to delicious and fresh tasting meals throughout the whole trip (how he knows the kiwis will be at their peak on day three still amazes me!)  He knew tons about the area and took us to some great locations.

Both Bill and Sheila were really wonderful and I would take a trip with them again in a heart beat. Please pass along my thanks to them. You've found two people who really made the trip a joy.
Thanks again for all your help.
Andrea

Hello Adam;
Cathy and I enjoyed the trip very much, particularly we were impressed by your guide who was very professional and such an excellent chef!

Hi Adam,
We had a great trip; thanks to you and your staff / guides. The food was great; creative and well presented.
Best regards,

Hi Adam,
I just wanted to write and say thank you so much for the wonderful two days of kayaking. Sheila was fantastic and the three of us had a great time! I think we even surprised ourselves!

It was just what we were looking for. Sheila was patient, always checking in with us and helping out when one or another of us needed it. She tailored the trips to our needs and wants and we really enjoyed it. It was great to be with someone happy at their job and she had high praise for you and your company. She always brought it back to "this is the way Adam does it and it's great!". You made it easy to book - answering all of my questions and in such a timely manner. And then Sheila made it easy to paddle!

I had tons of questions about the sea life and also the human lives of the people out there - we were all pretty interested in how people were living so remotely with boating to their places and having everything boated in. Sheila answered the best she could having not been from there.

I did say I would do some research on the jellyfish I finally got the nerve to pick up by the end of day two! If you wouldn't mind passing on to her:

  • Jellyfish do not have brains or hearts.
  • They do have parents so to speak but they reproduce twice in their life span and one time is asexually and the other is somewhat sexually but the jellyfish don't actually touch and instead shoot the necessary parts into the water.
  • They live in blooms but they aren't really families.

Well that was my wikipedia research anyway!

Thanks Again Adam!
We will be recommending our trip to everyone we know.
- Terryn

Hello PRSK. Anna and I wanted to say what a wonderful time we had on the July 18 Desolation Sound trip. I have some messages particularly for Adam, Joel, and Bill:

Adam, thanks! Everything was great. So glad you caught spot prawns for us! I was wondering if Laurie would share her amazing energy bar recipe with us? All your staff and guides were a pleasure to deal with.

Bill & Joel:
Thank you again. We really enjoyed the trip. That WAS a blood star!

So thank you all again! We are definitely recommending your company to friends.

Regards,
2 of your best participants (you know it's true),

Hi Adam,
I just want to let you know that we all had a wonderful time with Bill and Joel on our recent kayaking trip. I found them to be very professional, conscientious guides....very concerned with our safety and constantly having to remind us to stick together on crossings, etc. One of our group capsized and was very impressed with how calm Bill was during the rescue (even though she did the one thing he told us not to do...didn't stay with her boat) and that she had total confidence in him.

I am sure that they found our group of 50somethings (some of us old enough to be their mothers) challenging but took us on with a good attitude and encouraged us along the way.

The food was wonderful and nourishing....I was sure that I would come home ten pounds heavier. When some of the women cried for chocolate, they made sure they picked us up some at Refuge Cove. When one of the women suggested Bananas Foster for dessert, Bill took the challenge, bought the ingredients and whipped it up for us. These guides are Keepers!

As you can tell, I am very glad that I changed my mind and came with the cold as it just got better and better each day. Glad I didn't miss this opportunity to kayak your corner of the coast.

Whoops! forgot to mention that we really enjoyed Lori's jam and pumpkin loaf!

Oh no! I forgot about the smoked salmon, energy bars and the antipasto...we gobbled up all of these. The guides didn't even get a spoonful of the second jar of antipasto. We very much appreciated all the homemade treats.

I have made antipasto and so I know how much work it is....hours of chopping but don't stop.
Sincerely,
- Edythe Barrie

Hi Adam,
... I did a Toba trip with PRSK this past July. I should have written before, but I'll take the opportunity now to say that the trip was kick-ass good. The scenery was incredible, (you know this, of course) but scenery alone does not make a successful trip. More important was the professionalism of your company, the quality of the equipment and, saving the best for last here, our guide. Jan was knowledgeable, organized, patient and, dare I say, one hell of a good cook. I think that one of the highest compliments that can be paid is to say "if I had it to do all over again, I'd do it all over again. This is true for the Toba trip.

Clay from the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Just wanted to reiterate again how much I enjoyed the 5 day Desolation Sound kayak trip this past week (June 18-22, 2005). Your pre-trip customer service and equipment list were much appreciated. The warm weather and extensive marine life were great and the relaxed paddling suited me to a tee. But the best part was your guide Stephane, who was not only a great kayak instructor and trip planner, but an outstanding chef. His meals were varied and scrumptious. The breaded escargot, smoked salmon, fresh oysters (cooked 6 different ways), freshly-baked cakes and the eggs benedict were to die for. His professionalism in all he did and his superb culinary skills made this kayak trip the best I have ever taken, and I've been on 6 other multi-day trips with other companies.

I'll be back for other trips with Powell River Sea Kayak Limited.
Phil from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

My husband and I recently completed a kayak tour with your company and were very pleased with the entire trip. The kayaks were great, as were the guides, the food was amazing and the wildlife was incredible. We have toured with several other companies but Powell River Kayak would be our number 1 choice from now on and we will have no hesitation in coming back for further trips.

Thanks again for a wonderful trip.
Margaret

We were on the 4 day Desolation Sound Tour last week and want to say that it was great!

Stephane and Rhonda are excellent guides - they shared their knowledge and made us feel comfortable and safe, while challenging us.

Not to mention the food. Lots of kayak operators say their food is gourmet, but that usually means just that the ingredients are fresh (as opposed to dried or canned). That's fine. But Stephane's meals were over the top. We have eaten in many restaurants that can't compare. The guy can cook!

Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Hi Adam,
I just wanted to let you know we had an incredible trip - even if the rain poured on us on Wednesday, July 12th.

Rhonda and Angus were great guides - knowledgeable, interesting, friendly and very skilled at kayaking. Rhonda is an excellent cook - the food she turned out was quite impressive.

A highlight for us was the evening paddle to see the bioluminescence - it was quite spectacular - especially because it was raining and each rain drop produced a sparkle.

Thanks.
Diane and Brian

To the crew at PRSK:
Many thanks to you all for a wonderful trip in Desolation August 2-5. To Elke - for taking good care of my car and for being so helpful and kind. And Stephane the man for spoiling me with good care and exceptional meals.

Adam, you are fortunate to have such good people working for you.

You have a 1st class company and I won't hesitate to recommend you.

Best wishes,
Lani.
Victoria, BC.

Dear Adam and Stephan
Thanks for the pictures. What a wonderful trip! You guys were great....the food was amazing, the zodiac trip was a nice surprise and as always, it was pure fun.

Have a great summer, and regards to your lovely family. Really beautiful children!

regards,
Sharon S.

Adam & Stefan
Thanks so much for the pictures, they are fabulous and so was the trip. Thanks again for the great time, food, weather & kayaking.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the photos, they are great. We have some good ones that hopefully I will have on disc by the end of the week and will send you a copy.

Thanks again to you and Stephan for such a fabulous trip. As always you provided us with not only with a wonderfully outdoor experience, but the opportunity to let our hair down and really have lots of fun and laughs. (Something we have a hard time doing!, as you can imagine).

Tell Stephan that he definitely made the grade and Arianna is lucky to have him. The meals were delicious.

Looking forward to next years adventure.
Cheers
Anne

Hi Carl,
Thanks again for a wonderful four days. We can't stop talking about how much fun we had. You were a great guide and a wonderful cook. I just wrote Ginny and suggested that she and I become guides too, our jobs are "for the birds" (an England expression you might not understand). All that wonderful fresh air, the peace and quiet, good sleeps, exercise and no phones ringing, no kids to taxi around -- it was truly a great holiday. We hope you have a great summer and thanks again for providing such a beautiful experience.
Wishing you all the best,
- Patty and Kirby Holkestad

Just a note to say thanks again for the great trip. We especially enjoyed your post tour companionship/commentary, it was also quite enjoyable.

Hi Adam...
here are some photos of our time with PRSK...We seem to have lost Karl's email address...so could you forward them on to him too...Thanks! We loved our time with PRSK and Desolation sound!

"Never being on a kayak tour much less a multi-day tour, I was not sure what to expect. The first five minutes at the Powell River Sea Kayak base put my mind at ease; their reputation as experienced, seasoned, and safe professionals is well earned. You will find the owner, Adam Vallance, is very friendly and knowledgeable of not only kayaking, but of the area's history as well. The guides were very experienced, safe, professional, and humorous. I am still trying to decide what the most memorable part of the tour was, the mouth-watering food cooked by the guides, Christine and Johnny, or being so close to incredible scenery. If you are looking for a very memorable adventure, I would highly recommend booking a tour with Powell River Sea Kayak. "

Hello Adam!
Back home in Berlin again,we would like to say you that we have had a great time on our kayak trip to Desolation Sound. But we are not quiet sure if we had booked a fantastic scenic tour or a four star gourmet trip. And our guides Christine and Carl are they really "wilderness guides" or chefs de cuisine in holiday? Nevertheless it was simply great and we are looking forward to make our next trip with you next year. Please give our best regards to Christine and Carl.

Day Tours - 2010

Hello Adam;
We really want to say thank you so much to you and your crew for fitting us in on such short notice. We have just returned from our 2 night camping stay at SunLund, with a bike ride around Savory on Wednesday and the fantastic kayak trip today.
The 3 of us had a terrific time. As a family we get out a lot camping, fishing, exploring, etc, but this was really great.
So, thank you.
Jo and Andrew made the trip. Dominic, of course, thought that Andrew was the coolest dude ever!!!!!!!!! Joe was very professional and obviously does what she loves!
Thank you to everyone.

Hello Adam:
Too bad I didn't get a chance to meet you on our recent trip to Lund. We did however meet Jasmine, Jamie, and Abby who were great ambassadors for your company.

We had a wonderful time.  Jamie was terrific and the weather could not have been better.

Hi Adam,
A couple of weeks ago, seven of us took the Okeover/6hr kayak trip. We had such a great time. Most of us had done very little kayaking and some were a little nervous! But our guide, Trish, was an excellent teacher and leader. She made the trip fun and safe. Already my friends from Maple Ridge are planning to kayak again next year when they come to visit.

Thanks so much, to you and Trish, for providing such a special adventure for us.
Sincerely,
- Doug and Pat Hudson

Hi Adam,
I went on the Desolation Explorer tour last weekend and had a great weekend. The guide was super and the scenery was awesome. Will tell all my friends and family about it. Hope to do it again someday.

Hi Adam,
First off I wanted to thank you for the great excursion we had with you last week. It was the "Desolation Sound" day excursion that you took us out on, because one of your guides had injured her back. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and really appreciated you making the effort to take us out. Very much appreciated.

Thanks again Adam for a wonderful day.
- Gord Campbell

Thank you Adam for including me on that great trip yesterday. Sheila was an incredible guide and your product is fantastic. I already can't wait to get my wife out on the water! Next time, I'll lather on more sunscreen though, my face is a little red today.

Thanks again Adam,

Just want to say thank you for a lovely kayaking day trip on August 1. Our guide was great and the lunch was fantastic! We really appreciated being able to try out specific kayaks as well. Sure nice waters and great scenery there to explore and I'm sure we will be back.
Thank you again!

Lessons - 2010

Adam:
Thanks for arranging the clinic last Saturday. Sheila was great and we all had a blast. My daughter Krista and I successfully rolled several times and now know what we need to continue practicing. The others in our party learned new things and became more comfortable and confident in the boats.
Thank you.
Ken
