How to make a Reservation
Kayaks and equipment are considered reserved upon receipt of one half the total rental amount as a deposit. Visa or Mastercard is preferred, however, a personal cheque, if received no less than 15 days prior to departure is acceptable.
Please call us toll free at 1-866-617-4444 or email us and one of our staff will be glad to set-up your reservation.
Staff will need the following information from you:
- kayaks needed (single, double, plastic or fibreglass)
- exact dates (launch and return)
- heights and weights of renters (approximate)
- experience of renters (don't fudge this...we'll know!)
- Visa or Mastercard #, expiration date and name on card.
Upon arrival, all renters will be required to sign a rental agreement and liability release form. Anyone 18 and under will be required to have a parent or guardian sign on their behalf.
Cancellation Policy
When reserving kayaks, please note that Powell River Sea Kayak and Rockfish Kayak adhere to a strict policy for cancellations. Most renters do not anticipate plans to change - but they do!
Please read the following cancellation policy carefully. This policy has developed and changed over a 10 year period. Through feedback from staff and clients alike, this policy has been developed to not only meet the needs of this company, but to make it as reasonable as possible for the clients as well.
It is our hope that all our guests understand our need for this policy. We are not trying to be greedy by simply keeping your money. Operating a seasonal business in a remote area means we have to maximize our limited season. When you reserve kayaks, we are committed to this. Often we are having to turn potential renters away because we are 100% booked up. Please honour your booking and this cancellation policy.
We advise renters to consider purchasing trip cancellation insurance in the event you encounter the need to cancel at a late date.
The following states our cancellation policy for kayak and equipment rentals:
More than 7 days: Full deposit refunded less a $10 handling fee per kayak cancelled.
Less than 7 days: Deposit will be retained up to a maximum of $500 per booking.
Powell River Sea Kayak will make every attempt to fill the cancelled kayak(s), at which time the deposit will be fully refunded less $20 handling fee.
What about the weather?
Sea kayaking on the coast of British Columbia often means kayaking in the rain. Get good gear! Our cancellation policy is still in effect during rainy days.

How To Find Us
Powell River Sea Kayak's site on Penrose Bay, Okeover Inlet, is roughly 30 km's north of Powell River. Here are specific directions:
- From Powell River, head north on Highway 101 towards Lund.
- After roughly 20-25 minutes, you will be at the turn-off for Okeover Inlet. There are plently of signs indicating this turn-off - including one for Powell River Sea Kayak Ltd.
- Turn right off the highway onto Malaspina Road.
- Continue down Malaspina Road (roughly 2 minutes). You will see the waters of Okeover Inlet and then the Laughing Oyster Restaurant.
- Just past the Laughing Oyster Restaurant (100 feet) you will ease left onto a gravel road (Crowther Road). This is also where the small provincial park is located.
- Follow Crowther Rd. for 3 kilometres (almost exactly!).
- You will come down a steep hill and at the bottom is the entrance to Powell River Sea Kayak's launch site.
Kayak Delivery Service
There are two occasions when renters may need this service:
- When renting a kayak for paddling a destination other than those which are accessed from our sites on Okeover and Lund. Examples inlcude:
- Hotham Sound
- Jedediah Island
- Powell Forest Canoe Route (or other lakes)
- Nelson Island, Hardy Island and/or Scotch Fir Point
- The Malsapina Peninusula Loop (padding Lund to Okeover or opposite).
- This popular option allows kayakers to avoid back tracking on their initial launchsite route and thus to experience a greater diversity of the area.
Common Question: Why do the kayaks need to be delivered when you have a kayak shop in Lund and Okeover? Can't we just rent at one side and leave the kayaks at the other side?
Answer: We truly wish it was that easy! However, each kayak shop has it's own distinct rental fleet with it's own schedule. Rental kayaks therefore need to be delivered back to their original location.
Now for the catch with the above delivery services:
- Fees apply. For destinations other than the Malaspina Loop, please contact our office. For the Malaspina Loop, there is a fee of $20 per kayak for delivery or pick up.
- Delivery and pick up is an additional $5 charge.
- Deliverys must be booked in advance (we will need to book staff for this service)
- Staff are not always available at short notice (staff are extremely busy!)
- Rental kayaks only (this service is not available for personal kayaks)
- No transportation of people allowed.
This, perhaps, creates the greatest difficulty and we wish we could easily get around it. However, due to insurance restrictions, we are not allowed to transport people. Regardless, many renters don't let this detail dissuade them from using this service. Here are a few creative ways renters get back to the original launch site:
(It's only 10 km's between sites......)
- some don their running shoes
- some leave a bike at one location
- hitch hiking is part of the local culture
- two vehicles are very useful (one in Lund and one at Okeover)
- bum a ride with staff at the end of their work day
